Spot one-horned rhinos, Bengal tigers, and over 500 bird species in Nepal's premier wildlife destination.

Chitwan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the best wildlife destinations in Asia. Here's your complete guide.
**One-Horned Rhinoceros:** Chitwan is home to over 600 greater one-horned rhinos. Sightings are almost guaranteed on jungle walks and jeep safaris.
**Bengal Tiger:** Around 100 tigers roam the park. Sightings are rare but possible, especially on early morning jeep safaris along the Rapti River.
**Gharial Crocodile:** These critically endangered fish-eating crocodiles are found in the Rapti and Narayani rivers. The Chitwan breeding center has helped their recovery.
**Birds:** Over 500 species recorded, including the giant hornbill, paradise flycatcher, and endangered Bengal florican. Chitwan is a birder's paradise.
**Others:** Sloth bears, wild elephants, langur monkeys, spotted deer, wild boar, and if you're very lucky, the endangered Gangetic dolphin.
**October-March:** Dry season, shorter grass makes wildlife easier to spot. October-November is ideal. December-January can be foggy but atmospheric.
**April-June:** Hot but the best time for tiger sightings as animals gather around waterholes.
Chitwan is a 5-6 hour drive from Kathmandu or a 25-minute flight to Bharatpur airport. Most visitors combine it with Pokhara (3-4 hours by road).
