Kahun Danda: The Viewpoint the Crowds Forgot

Kahun Danda is a ridge viewpoint northeast of Pokhara that offers mountain and river views comparable to Sarangkot — but without the tourist crowds and sunrise selfie competitions.

Why Kahun Danda?

While Sarangkot gets packed with tourists every morning, Kahun Danda remains peaceful and largely unvisited by international travellers. It is popular with locals for morning walks and offers:

  • **Annapurna range views** — the same peaks visible from Sarangkot, from a slightly different angle.
  • **Seti River gorge views** — the deep, narrow gorge is visible from several points along the ridge, with the milky-white river visible far below.
  • **Peace and quiet** — your companions are more likely to be local joggers than tour groups.

The Hike

  • **Duration:** 1.5-2 hours from the Pokhara city area.
  • **Difficulty:** Easy to moderate — a gentle climb along a ridge.
  • **Trail:** Well-defined paths through farmland and scattered settlements.
  • **Best time:** Early morning for clear mountain views, or late afternoon for the golden light.

What Else to See

The ridge connects to several other local viewpoints and walking trails, making it possible to spend a full half-day exploring the area. The surrounding countryside is dotted with traditional farmhouses and kitchen gardens.

Getting There

Take a taxi or walk from northern Pokhara to the base of the ridge. The trailhead is not well-signposted — asking locals for "Kahun Danda" is the best navigation strategy.

Kahun Danda is for the traveller who wants Pokhara's mountain views with a side of solitude — the same peaks, a different perspective, and nobody in the way.
